'Seasick - Saving the Hauraki Gulf'  documentary series is out. Have you seen it yet?

Pleased to have contributed a load of hard hitting footage towards this 7 part web series. Watch the full series here.

It investigates the history of fishing, commercial and recreational, fisheries management in general, the Quota Management System and looks at marine reserves. Most people agree with more marine protection but there is conflict over what that should look like.

Over the years I have been focused on documenting sediment (aka mud) washing into the Hauraki Gulf from farming, forestry and coastal developments. It is rewarding to see much of it compiled together and presented.

Please take the time to check out this informative series https://interactives.stuff.co....

This incredible ecosystem is in serious trouble and not enough has been done fast enough. Time is running out to #SaveTheHaurakiGulf.  There are stories of hope.

I personally don’t think this series is hard hitting enough to put pressure on our leaders to make the changes we need.. but hey, you be the judge.

Some key take home statements:

“Government action through policy changes, through protection measures, through constraints on fishing that makes the real difference.” - Eugenie Sage

“A lot of work to be done. Everyone needs to keep on both the councils and governments case to keep them on the task to make sure it happens.” - Raewyn Peart

People are always going to break the rules, developers are always looking to cut costs. We need people like Jim Staback, CEO of Auckland Council to step up and do his job and enforce stronger rules around sediment pollution.. currently he is too chicken to do his job.

I would love to hear your thoughts - hello@geoffreidnz.com
